How to fit Rear Electric Windows.
Now if you lucky you wont need to alter the wiring loom like I did....
You will need:
2 Rear Motors and mech
2 Rear Door Switches
2 rear door wiring looms
A 4 swich centre panel.
A full rear electric wiring looms of a cavalier with electric rear windows (if not already there)
A pack of 5 mm pop rivets
Toolkit with drill.
Step one:
Remove a rear door card - to do this you need a phillips screw driver. something to remove the circlip ( a bit of cloth works or you can pick up a tool from Halfords for about £9.99 (£7.00 on Trade if I remember rightly). Lift the plastic cover off the handle and remove the 2 screws, and one from the base of the handle.
You should now be able to pull the door card off, don't be too rough with it, but at the same time, don't be too gentle with it either, prise the card away from the door from the bottom working up the sides. Then carefully peal back the plastic sheeting - try not to tear / rip this as the car will never sound the same with wind gushing through the door.
Step 2.
Chock the window with a bit of wood (although I didn't prefered to be able to move the window up and down to manoever the motor out. To remove the current winder motor, fit a 5.5mm drill bit to your drill and remove the pop rivets - one by one. There should be 6 in total.
Step 3.
Remove the door loom making note of the route it takes as this is important to make sure nothing gets in the path of the windows motions, at most it will be cable tied to the door so a pair of snips or pliers will resolve this
Step 4.
Install new loom, following the route previously used by the old loom, plug into the central locking motor.
Step 5.
Offer up the new electric motor to the door and rivet into place - you'll most likely find you can only get 5 of the 6 rivets in due to the winder hole being where the last rivet should go.
Step 6a
If your lucky enough to have the complete floor loom, just plug the door loom into the floor loom and replace the centre console switches. Job Done
Step 6 b (If you do not have a complete floor loom)
If the loom is not there, then you will need to remove the front seats and both sill trims to continue.
You can obtain a complete floor loom from a Cavalier with rear electric windows (ie the donor car you got the motors and everything else from), or you can make your own. I will upload a diagram of sorts later on to illustrate the pinouts.
Until then, here is the colour / function of the wiring.
Green with a grey strip - Window Up Function (Will appear more than once)
Blue with a Red strip - Window Down Function (Will appear more than once)
Red with a white strip - Safety override for the "black button" (Splice into existing loom)
Thick Red - Fuse 30 (Plugs into spare connector in the passenger side footwell)
Black - Fuse 12 (Splice into existing black wire for the front electric windows)
Brown - Earth (I mounted this to my existing earth point under the passenger seat)
White - Child Lock
Brown with a Black strip - Total Closure
Updates to follow with clear wiring instructions.
This is only a guide. I nor Cavmk3OC.com can and will not be held responsible for any modifcations carried out on your car by yourself.
I have written this guide as clearly as I possibly can at this time, if something is unclear or you need more details, please PM me or reply here and I will update as and when needed.
